installed a 2nd harddrive and then decided to just get rid of old one and now i'm having problems downloading windows updates. this drive is named ( D:)drive. when i download the updates they keep wanting to go to the ( c:) drive where I no longer have a c:drive. I physically removed it. What have i done this time? help!

It will be very difficult if not impossible to get the drive letter switched
to C without performing a clean install of XP now.

So, you only have one hd now, right?
If you've set up very many things, this might screw up some
other paths, but you could just change the drive designator
to c:. Anything you installed that wants to go to D: though
might need to be reinstalled or have the default paths
modified to go back to C:. It's best by far to reinstall
the apps though.
Use Computer Management to rename the drive.

Do you still have the older HD, and is it still bootable as the C: drive
with all you need still on it? Did your newer harddrive come with a setup
disk (what brand if possible)?
