Hi all,

I want to move my current bootable W2K harddrive to a new pc/mb. I'm
making a todo checklist. Obviously before the swap I'll switch from
SVGA to VGA so I can see Windows using the new pc/mb. Besides the
video hardware are there any other hardware drivers which would keep
the new pc/mb from getting to the point where I can load new drivers
as needed? I think the mouse and kb drivers are generic enough for
the new pc/mb. I know I'll have to load new sound card, network, video
for example. I know the recommendation is new install but too much
software to load from scratch again. I'm sorry if this is old hat but
I couldn't find a previous thread using Google or MSKB.

Thanks,

Thanks Jeff. In my case this won't work because I have no backup
media for the source computer and no new harddrive for the destination
computer. So I have to anticipate what steps I need to consider
moving the harddrive insitu to a new mb. Is it something as simple as
creating boot diskettes and somewhere an option to load new drivers as
needed? Maybe it isn't onerous as I think but I'd think someone
traveled this road before.

Thanks,
Jim

Jeff's post gave me a place to start using Google. In my case,

292175 How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade of Windows 2000

should do the trick. I'll still have too reapply the SPs and security
fixes but that is still faster than reinstalling third party software.
There was a post to use the generic MS IDE driver and let Windows PNP
take over. I might try that route hoping to just have to install new
device drivers.
