Hello i have a old 40gb harddrive install.

But today the thing fail. It was ok last night.

The bios will not pick it up at all and the drive makes a clicking noise all the time.

It also locked my second harddrive up.

Can i get acces to the files on it.

Is it set as slave?

Is it on a separate IDE channel?

If so and it just clicks and locking up ya PC it's probably not worth bothering with m8. To get the information of it could cost you lots of money if you were to send it away. Unfortunately this happens all the time to people you may have to cut ya loss's and chuck it away.

Sounds terminal and as TriplexDread said it's very expensive to get the data off it. Try a different IDE cable & power connector to the hard drive to see if that helps, however if the bios is not picking it up & all jumpers are set OK and it's ticking like a clock, then it's sadly dead:(

Try all that.

I have not touch the harddrive in a long time.

The bios will not pick it up at all. But my other harddrive is fine(That is in the bios setup ).

Sounds dead to me. Attach it to a second IDE interface (assuming thats appropriate) as a slave drive. Boot from the good HDD. Go into My COmputer. Can you see the old drive? If so, quickly copy the data across. If not, chuck it!
