Hello everybody,

I would like to build my own computer and need to know the exact
dimensions of the housing and the positions and measures of the
mounting holes.

I tried to find that information in the internet at some manufacturers
pages but in vain. Isn't there a standard for that?

Could please anybody tell me if there is an internet resource for
that?

Thank you in advance.

Why not take measurements from your current desktop/hdd?

Every full drive manual I have has engineering drawings.

Even the product summary for the latest Deskstar has them.

Dear "Someone",

to take the measurements from a desktop/pc has two difficulties,
despite I must confess that came to my mind too.

First, it is a bit like chineese whisper. Someone told me that
somebody told him ... a.s.o., a.s.o. I wonder if it will come out as
it originally was.

Second, it is not really as easy as you may believe to do that,
because you need to measure the holes diameter and the distance of
their edges. The hole has a cutting for the screw. So you will get
three uncertainties in comparison to nearly two, defined on a drawing.

But nevertheless, your advice was welcome and could have been
helpfull. I suppose I will end up doing so.

Greetings
Michael

Dear Eric,

thank you very much for that information.
Mine is a Samsung SP1604N. It has a small piece of paper with it,
which denotes jumper settings. But nothing else.

Try the Hitachi and Seagate sites--both have installation manuals for most
of their drives that include mounting dimensions.

My experience with different drives is that the holes on the bottom of
the drive are at the same location, while the holes on the side vary in
positioning with different drive manufacturers.

There are usually longer cutouts in the drive cages sides to allow for
this, so why not take measurements from an existing cage?
