tried to re-install XP Pro, as the system had bedome
unstable.
Win XP starts the install, and then gives me this error
message: "STOP: 0xC0000221 unknown hard error
C:\Winnt\System32\Ntdll.dll"

This is what I have tried so far:

Format of hard drive - No problem
Scandisk - no errors
Surface scan - no errors
Installed an old copy of Windows 98 - worked fine
Tried a friend's copy in case my CD was bad - same error
message
Re-formatted - ok
Re-scandisk - ok
Re-surface scan - ok
Even did a checkdisk!

Knowledge base entries for that message have not helped,
as they just say to extract the file from the CD, well
mine IS from my CD.

What else can I do? Been at this for over a week, please
help!

TIA!

This might help, try testing your memory using memtest and you might try to borrow some memory to see if it still has the same problem. Anyway, on which part of the installation did you encounter this problem?

KB,

I've been at this for so long now, that I can't really
tell you, my mind's all fogged... I know that it's after
the install formats the drive, and after a reboot...

I'll test the mem, thanks for the tip :)!
