Hard drives no disc

I recently saw the end of a tech program where they discussed hard
drives that operate without a rotating disc, which are faster, quieter
and less likely to break down. I think some are external, connected by
USB without the need for a separate power supply, while some may be
internal. Can someone tell me what these hard drives are called?
