I went under My Computer i was fixing to click on format right, i see when ya
do that, it erases all ya data. is that part of the process too in order to
install a new hard drive.

Brand new drives must be partitioned and then formatted. Until they are
partitioned, you can't format them.

And yes, formatting does basically erase all data. There are recovery
tools, but results vary. You cannot format the system partition on a
Windows system while Windows is running, but you *can* format secondary
drives or partitions.

if you are installing a new HD on which you aim to install the operating
system..XP..the HD can be formatted during the install of the OS.
If you are simply adding another HD you will need to format after the
install by going to Admin.Tools/Computer Management/drive managemt.

I wanna also talk about this, when i go to try to install it, it says disk
boot error, please insert system disk and press enter. i insert the software
disk of the hard drive right, when I do, it still acts like it do not wanna
go on and install. I do not think the PC wanna recognize the new hard drive i
wanna install. the one on it now is only 40GB hard drive. the new one i have
is a Western Digital 160GB hard drive, yes it is. it will boost system
performance, store more data, and more. i got it from walmart for 64 dollars
plus tax, yep. yeah i been upgrading my PC a lot. I also install a new DVD/Cd
burner combo drive. I am gonna also upgrade to windows vista. i have the
upgrade cd, but i only have 384MB, i gotta get 128MB and i'll be ready to
upgrade them. I have windows xp home edition service pack 2, also windows xp
professional service pack 1. yeah my pc has 2 operating systems just in case
one do not wanna work i'll have another one to launch, yes. i am emailing ya
this under the professional OS, yep. I am also having internet problems
connecting under home edition service pack 2. i be connected, cause those 2
pc's show in the taskbar saying status:connected, but i do not have problems
with it under professional. it works fime. i been trying to configure it
under professional. I have DSL. I like it, it is high speed. my next thing is
to try and get wireless internet. i also have cable modem for high speed. my
home cable is home too for me to establish a high speed internet thru it,
yeah. I am gonna get a laptop as my next PC, no joking. I am gonna let this
one be my last desktop, unless someone gives me one, I'll sure take it, no
kidding. i done had more desktops than laptops. i done only had 2 laptops
throughout my life, yep.
