hard drive was partitioned

You will have to repartition it and tell it to use the
whole drive capacity. Other than that I've heard of a
utility that may come w/ XP, not sure, that can fix your
paritions without having to ruin your OS and start over.
If you want to reformat and start over repartition it
there, if not try to find the utility to fix your current
partition.

No utility comes with XP that allows to repartition without loss of data.
You need to get a 3rd party utility like Partition Magic by PowerQuest (now
owned by Symantec).
