Hard Drive Warranty Question

Most retail Hard Drives have a 1 year warranty, this I understand.

My question is, when does that 1 year start?

I bought a hard drive that was made in JUNE 2003, but I bought it in SEPT
2003. It is now failed.

Going to SEAGATE.com, it shows "Out of warranty" from June 2003. But I have
receipts to show I bought it in September, so I should still have warranty.

Does anyone else have experience with this?

Thats INSANE. What if a hard drive was bought 6 months after the
manufacture date? I always get a variety of manufactured dates and
they arent always within a few months.

Warranty is from the data you purchased it, talk to the person you purchased it from.

Purchase date

If you didn't have the receipt then it would likely fall back to
manufacture date.

Purchase date. Manufacture date is used as a hedge against those that
would try to return an older product with a newer receipt. This is a
BIG problem with products that are still offered for sale when the
original batch is out of warranty. Cheating customers make life more
difficult for us all. Sigh....
