This may seem a silly question but here goes.
I went into the properties of my hard drive to check what
i have used. I was alarmed to see that i have used nearly
12 gigabytes of my 20 gigabyte hard drive. My machine is a
toshiba satelite laptop running win xp home. This is where
i am looking for some help. I counted up the usage in the
add and remove programs and it only totals 2gb ( i also
have about 15 windows updates that do not have any usage
beside them. I do not know how to find where the other
10gb has gone to. Can somebody tell me all the places to
look so i can account for the usage of my drive as i only
thought you needed to count up the programs in the
add\remove section.

Thanks in advance

Have you got any .mp3, .wav, .avi files stored on your hard drive? Have you
run a a defrag on your HDD? Used Disk Cleanup in System Tools to remove the
crap. Check your Temporary Internet Settings are set to use half of your
Hard Drive set this at 5Mb should suffice.

System Restore uses disk space. However, I do not know how to control the
disk space.

Also, do you have Norton SystemWorks install?? If yes, then the Norton
Protected Recycle Bin is using disk space to keep all the deleted files,
from a configured list, in case you would need to restore them.

Also, how many different user account have been created on this PC? Each
user have their own Local Settings (Program Menu, Desktop, Temp. files,
Temp. Internet Settings, Documents and Settings and Recycle Bin).

Y.

An excellent free tool to figure out what files are taking up how much space
where on your harddrive at a glance.
