I am trying to upgrade my 20 gig hard drive to an 80 gig.
I am running xp home with 4 user accounts; 2 are password
protected administrator accounts, 2 are limited accounts.
I used powerquest drive image 7 to do a disk to disk copy
and make the new disk bootable. The new disk boots to the
windows splash page without listing the four accounts and
I can't go any further. The mouse curser is functional
but nothing else...I can't bring up the start menu, the
task manager or anything else. I suspect it has
something to do with the multiple accounts but I can't
seem to work around the problem.
Any advice?
Thanks.

Do a reinstall of the OS, Drive Image copied the OS and data
files, but the disk serial numbers don't match. A reinstall
and reactivation will fix it. If you still have the old
drive available, you might be able to copy the old serial
number/volume number, I think I recall seeing something to
that effect on one of the MVPs webpages...

lanndroo - It's not your accounts that are causing your problem. At least I
don't believe it is. I'm doing exactly the same thing you are only I'm using
Acronis True Image. I got the same results - HD booting to Starting Windows
screen with mouse active but not going beyond that. My whole point in
trying to upgrade using a HD imager was to avoid having to reinstall XP,
going through all the updates, and potentially losing my settings and other
stuff. If you continue to work this and are successful, please post your
procedure. I'll do the same. Thanks.
