A few months ago I added a larger hard drive. At the time
I copied the contents of the original drive to the new
one. Last night the old drive died. I removed it from
the machine and switched the new drive to master. Now
when I start the computer Windows Xp stops loading when I
have the blue screen with the Windows XP logo. It just
sits there on this screen. Any ideas on how I can get
Windows XP to load using the new drive.

Dave,
Is Windows xp installed on the new harddrive and if
so more info like motherboard, hard drive types would be
an asset to helping you.

I copied the entire old hard drive onto the new one. This
included Windows XP. It does start to load but stops
before the login screen. It's a Western Digital hard
drive and a HP computer.

The copy might not have gone well. Sometimes it just doesn't work. You could
try doing a repair install of windows.

Dave, the Master Boot Record is on the old drive that died. Just switching the jumper makes the new drive bootable but it has no record of what to boot. You'll need to open the Command Console and do some reading. Is this an OEM installation of XP or a purchased upgrade XP CD?
