My sister in-law's HD is shot. The master (8gb) doesn't work anymore, but
she's added a 10gb a couple of years ago. Can she just put the 10gb in the
8gb's slot, and reload everything?

Pentium11 350mghz

18GB HD 10G HDD + 8G HDD <> 18G HDD
Windows XP

Why is this PC even running Windows XP?

You won't be able to get it to fit on 10gig and have much usable space.

If they *must* have XP on their computer then they should just replace the
WHOLE machine, otherwise jump back to Windows 98.

Thanks to all.

Can she put the old drive in the slave drive slot, and hopefully be able to
recover some of her lost data?

Yes, if it's no longer the boot drive there is a good chance of getting some data off it. I did this with a customers drive that had
died, it would sort of run for a short period of time and crash. There was no way you could boot the system off it but as a slave it
was possible to get data off it.

Thanks Micheal Culley, you've been a great help.
I see from another post that the hard drives should be separated to help
them keep cool.
These NG's are great, I received a lot of useful (and some useless)
information through them.
