hi

In win98se i had the option to add a pasword when sharing a hard-drive on the home network. in my xp-home i can't find that option - so the access isn't password limited

I understand that the xp-pro contains something called "simple file sharing" option in the folder option menu (view), and disabling that option enables the password limited network access to the hard-drive. However, in my xp-home i just don't see that option in the menu

The question is, how can i enable the hard-drive password limitation in xp-home?

10x for the help
Roy.

You can't -- XP does not support network passwords for folders the way that
W9x does.

One simple work-around is to give the shared folder a hidden share name,
like SECRET$, and only tell your friends the secret. The trailing $
in the name means that the share name is not advertised on your LAN.

There are other ways, but the simple W9x scheme does not exist with XP.

10x for the help, but i'm afraid that's not the solution i need. i need the whole drive to be visible to all users on the network, but still inaccessible without the proper password. i thought the "simpe file sharing" system has something to do with that, but maybe i was wrong (and i don't see that option in my xp-home anyway). maybe if i'll use the NetBUI protocol i'll get such file managment control features? do you have other suggestions?
