Hi:

I'm building a new system and I'm unsure of how I should setup my hard
drives for the best speed and backup. Any recommendations would be helpful.

I've got:

60 gig 7200 WD (transferred from another PC)
80 gig 8mb 7200 WD - new
120 gig 8mb Serial ATA Maxtor Diamondmax 9 - new

Should I run everything off the 120 as it is faster and put my backups on
the other two drives? I really want my OS on the most reliable but fastest
drive. I'm going to be running Windows XP Pro. Should I partition the 120
and put 20 gigs aside for the OS and Applications???

Thanks for any help and recommendations.

You will likely see no difference in performance from the SATA compared to
your (I assume, you didn't specify) ATA133 drives. However, the 8MB cache
drives should be a little snappier.

Install your OS and apps on either the 80 or 120GB drives ... performance
will be about the same. And, yes, I suggest a separate partition be created
just for your OS and apps. You can always resize it later with something
like Partition Magic if it starts getting too full.
