Did you partition and format the drive.

Take a look in control panel --> administrative tools --> Computer
management --> Disk management

Does the drive appear there ??

HELP: Bios recognizes second hard drive -windows XP does
not???
.
I have a similar issue
Asus P4C800 Deluxe motherboard. May be due to a bad BIOS
flash. I get to deal with this Monday.

I believe I have a similiar issue. My external hard
drive didn't seem to be recognized either, but I took a
look in the disk management and see it there. I was told
I need to partition and format the drive, but not how.
How do I do this and what does partitioning do. I think
I understand the format part.

Thanks,
Carolyn

Ok, never mind. I had inserted the usb 2.0 installation
cd and realized that I didn't need to because I was using
the firewire option. Uses both. Because I saw the drive
name, etc. under computer management in disk management,
I thought it was the drive. I ejected the cd and it
disappeared. Possibly a faulty external hard drive.
When plugged in, the system did not find new hardware.....
