I have fitted a second hard drive to my PC, it is recognised in the POST/BIOS
on start up but does not appear to be recognised by Windows in 'My Computer'
or 'Windows Explorer'. If I check system hardware it says it is working ok?
Any ideas on this one would be appreciated. I have tried another hard drive
and the same happens. I am running XP.

Have you created any partitions on it yet? Have you formatting the
partition(s) yet?

Ever buy something that says "some assembly required"? Yeah, it's a shelf
unit but not until you put it together from the parts. All you have so far
are the parts. Start assembling.

If it has partitions that have been formatted, go into Disk Management
(diskmgmt.msc) and assign drive letter(s).

Use Start - Run - Diskmgmt.msc and see if the second hard drive is
detected there.

Also make sure that the partition status reported by diskmgmt agrees
with your personal knowledge about the status of the drive. For
example, if you have previously used the drive and you know that there
is at least one existing partition on the drive but diskmgmt says the
entire drive is unpartitioned space then you have a problem that needs
further detailed examination. On the other hand if this is a brand
new drive that you have not yet partitioned and diskmgmt says that
there are no partitions on the drive then you can go ahead and create
a new partition (or partitions if you don't want all of the space in
one partition/drive letter).

Good luck
