Hi,
I want to add a second hard drive to my PC, an IDE. Are all IDEs
interchangeable or must I look for certain pin # designations?
Thanks,

Any IDE drive will work (except the new SATA drives), but if you want good performance with a new drive you must use a 80 wire cable and have DMA enabled. If your motherboard does not support at least DMA mode 4 (66 MB/sec) you should get a Promise ATA100/ATA133 adapter card.

All IDE drives will fit the connectors. YOu may want to stay with the same
brand as you already have. Sometimes differant brands have a problem
working with each other.

Just make sure the BIOS and operating system will handle the size of the
hard drive. It does not have to be the same size as the one you already
have. It can usually be bigger with no problem.
On the back is a small jumper that you usually have to set the drive to
either a Master or Slave drive. Some of the time the master will need to be
on the end of the cable and the slave in the middle. It is not suspose to
mater but in some cases it can.
