Hello,

i had to install xp on a new drive and now when i use the
new drive c:\ drive shows as d:\ and d:\ shows as c:\.

windows still loads but cant find files because its
looking on c:\ for the files.. but c:\ is really the d:\
so it dosnt have the windows directory.

how can i make windows load the primary drive as c:\ and
the secondary drive as d:\ ??

i have tryed changeing the drive letters but it says it
cant because of the system files.

can any one help pls?

Can't help you but I am interested in the solution
because the same thing happened to me this a.m. when I
installed windows on a new hd. My boot drive is now the
i: drive, and as you said, a lot of programs assume the
c: drive is where windows is. I have no c: drive.

2 questions - is there any way to fix this with/without
losing data, and how can I prevent this from happening
again because this new drive is only a temp until my
regular (bigger) drive is replaced, when I will have to
install windows again.

Thanks

The active boot drive always becomes C: for the OS that boots from that drive , no matter
what letter it was when this OS was installed.
If this sounds confusing, please let a professional to install your system.
Otherwise you can lose data on your disk.
