hard drive problem

Can't boot system. Error message: cannot update register. I've changed the
hard drive and the system now works, but I have a ton of data on the old
drive. Any idea how I can access this info?

Install the old drive as a slave drive instead of master, and take
ownership.

That's right, though for any folders not within a profile,
you should be able to access them directly
