I installed my hard drive on the IDE2 slot while
the CDROM is on IDE1.

I read on one message that the hard drive should always be
on IDE1. Why? Does it affect the response time?

Any comments?

Yes,
as the bios is looking for a hard drive on IDE1 first. How much time do
you lose... somewhere between 1-5 seconds is my guess. After the drive is
picked up everything continues as normal. However, if your bios has the
option to indicate No drive on the IDE1 channel then you just may save that
time loss if you can indicate it that way. Some bioses simply list it as
AUTO rather than NONE.
