friend had a failure to boot.

Setup could not repair
Fix MBR gave cannot read old boot record
Appeared to format when asked but nothing had happened
Said unable to delete partition when asked
Daisy chained to my machine the disk can be read in windows.
But on startup asks to check disk for errors but when allowed stops at
4% saying error reading folder(null)

Have virus checked. Any ideas please?

TIA

Delete partition - create partition - format partition

That's one of the problems! partition cannot be deleted!!
Using XP or partition program from setup. XP says it has done it but
although it appears as unallocated, nothing has in fact happens. XP
setup says it can't delete partition.!!

As I tell others: Bet you're NOT booting from the CD when you try to
install.

You are starting the install from within the Windows operating system!

Boot from the CD! You can, most certainly delete/create/partition hard
drives!
