I have a 60GB Quantum Fireball Plus AS hard drive that I recently wiped
using Boot and Nuke (dban.sourceforge.net). I've used this program with
other drives and never had problems afterward; however, this time the
drive is unrecognized no matter what I try.

* Not recognized in BIOS
* Not recognized by Maxtor's PowerMax utility
* Not recognized by Western Digital's utilities

I've tried swapping cables and IDE ports. I've verified that another
(functioning) drive works with those cables and IDE ports. Is there
anything else I can try at this point? Obviously there isn't any data
on the drive that I need (since I just nuked the drive), but I hate
throwing it away if it can be resurrected.

Thanks,
Dylan

Does the drive actually spin up ? Its best to check
that with the drive physically lose on the desktop
and with just the power connector plugged in. You
should be able to feel it spin up if it does spin up.

Its possble that the metal tunnels in the power
connector have opened up a bit and dont make
good contact. That can give a different result with
one drive which has marginally smaller pins or
which doesnt allow the plastic shell to go in so far.

It may well have just died. They aint called
FireBalls for nothing, one chip can fry itself.

Yes, the drive spins up. I had it loose on the floor and was able to
feel it spin up (and down, when powering off).
