Good idea, glad it worked for you. The rails I am talking about are
made of plastic with a spring wire running along it for about 4 inches
with the wire bent at the ends and going slightly through the slide.
The slide is then affixed to the drive by pressing the wire ends into
the screw holes on the drive. There is a right side rail and a left
side rail. The difference being the location of the wire. The wire
ends don't poke through the plastic piece in the middle of the short
(width) dimension of the plastic rail. They are offset, thus
requiring a different slide for each side of the drive. The extra
slides I do have (they came with the 6400) are for the 5.25 inch
device cage, not the 3.5 inch device cage. Strangely, the slides for
the 5.25 inch devices are different as the wire ends for these poke
through in the middle of the short (width) dimension.
There is a chance I could use regular screw on plastic slides that I
used to use on drives several years ago. Any idea where I can find
these? Tnx!
I had one case that had female slides in the case and male parts that
screwed to the side of the hard drives. I ended up making the male parts
out of wood but then I had to ensure that the drive was grounded to the
case.
