Hi, I was trying to install a 2nd hard drive then find I
couldn't start the win2000 os. I am sure I use the
correct jump for both disk. The error messege I got in
stating wim2000 is on winlogon.exe saying that "The
exception privileged instruction ... occurred in the
application at location ...". So I decide to switch the
master and slave jumper of the two disk and reinstall
win2000 on the 2nd hard drive. After starting the windows
I noticed that in windows explorer there is no sign of the
1st disk but in the disk mamager it do see the 1st disk as
heathy, without showing the partition I did on the disk.
does that means that the data on the 1st harddive is not
recoverable?

When installing a 2nd hd the only jumper to be changed is on the 2nd, new
disk.
I would suggest you undo the installation, by reverting to the origonal disk
as master. Then start again, set 2nd to slave and ensure ide cables
connected correctly/in right sequence.
I'm assuming they are ide disks and you are not troubled by the BigLba
problem.

That's not true about adding a 2nd hard drive and only
changing the jumpers on the 2nd drive. Some hard drives
have different jumpers for "Master" and "Single". In that
case, you would strap the 1st drive for "Master" and the
2nd drive as "Slave".
