Does anyone know, or is there any spec that states the
maximum addressable STORAGE (not memory) under WinXP Home
and Pro?

I'm thinking of building a quasi-server workstation, and
I'm contemplating a 4x250GB raid array. Will WinXP Pro
(or Home) address a TB?

any thoughts, email to above (minus the NOSPAM, of course)

Hi, Chris.

Storage limitations are more a question of the FILE system (FAT, NTFS, etc.)
than of the operating system. But you are a LONG way from hitting the
limits. For details, see this page from the online version of the WinXP Pro
Resource Kit:
Size Limitations in NTFS and FAT File Systems
http://www.microsoft.com/TechNet/prodtechnol/winxppro/reskit/prkc_fil_tdrn.asp?frame=true

A short quote:
"Maximum volume size
" Theory: 2^64 clusters minus 1 cluster
" Implementation: 256 terabytes minus 64 KB ( 2^32 clusters minus 1
cluster)"

And note that these limits are per VOLUME; you might have a dozen or more
volumes on a single HD.

I must say: MAD PROPS for the great explanation. Now
it's just the $$$ barrier I'm facing. I appreciate the
help.

XP SP1 has 42 bits of addressing for IDE devices. 4400 GB. If the BIOS
supports it.
