Confused

I have been having MAJOR problems with my hard drives mainly I think because
I'm not fully aware of what's going on. My machine has 2 drives. The small
one what I assumed to be the main 'c' drive was one that flat cable & the
other was in a caddie that pulls out & is portable. I was having problems
with both running low on both storage & intermittent problems with the drive
not always being responsive. So I bought a new 250GB WD 7200 PATA drive
with the thought of placing the new drive where the old 'c' drive was
located & doing a reinstall of XP onto it. Then once this was in place I
would put the old 'c' drive into the caddie, drag over the files I needed &
when this was finished just reformat it.

Since I didn't wish to loose all of the data that was on the problem 'c'
drive I had figured in placing this drive into the caddie once the new drive
was installed & had XP installed on it. I managed to get a complete
reinstall of XP with SP2 onto the new drive without any other problems other
than the fact that I found that this new drive was labeled 'D' instead of
being 'C'.

Is this likely to mean that the old drive was in fact the drive that was in
the caddie? Does it matter if my OS drive is labeled 'C' or 'D' . Would
I have problem in opening files with if the drive letter has changed? I
know that a right click will allow a renaming of a drives letter but if I
were to do this. I do have available Partition Manager 8 which has a drive
mapping feature but whether or not if could be used at this stage I don't
know.

The new main drive 'D' drive worked OK & I was able to do all my updates
antivirus etc. without any problem.

Thanks in advance

If all is working don't worry about it.
