How can I re-letter the default HD lettering? I have 2
drives, one partitioned. I just did a clean install of
XP Pro and now the lettering is swapped for D and E. I
would like them back to the original way. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Sure. Go into Control Panel, Administrative Tools, then Disc Management..
Scroll down to see the drive, or drives you wanna change the assigned
letters for. As i remember, you have to right click them to get that
choice.. Be careful in here; if you want to swap, let us say hypothetically,
C for F, you can't just change F to C because you will already have C
assigned.. Follow me?.. So you will have to change one first to allow the C
for example to be freed-up and then go back and do it again for the same
drive.

Caution here; i have been told it is best NOT to mess with Windows
assignment of the root drive (usually C) but i can't verify that is any
danger or not. You will get a 'warning' message that sez something like,
'your drives might not be able to access data' or something like that.

I have not changed my root HD assignment, I HAVE changed drive letters
for 2 CD burners i wanted drive letters swapped. That caused no problems,
but that isn't the same as changing a HD with operating system files on it..
You may want to go onto the Web and see if there are any further
cautions or warnings info to read BEFORE getting involved in doing this;
better safe than having to sort out a mess afterward. Good Luck..

Disk Management will not allow you to change the drive letter of a System or
Boot volume :-)
