Hard drive layout

Hello!

I'm going to be building a new PC but I'm having a lot of trouble
deciding what hard drive (s) to get...

I want to backup all my DVDs and CDs for uni so I need about 500GB for
that, but, if I use the same drive for my DVDs as my OS, will my OS
run slower? Should I instead get a second 40 / 80GB hard drive for my
OSs?

Also, any recommended UK online component shops would be appreciated.

Thanks!!

SATA Drives are dirt cheap. I'd get a 160-200gb drive for OS and
programs and a 500gb for data.

I currently have a 160 for OS and Programs, a 200 for data, and
external 160 for misc and an external 250 for data backup.

What you could do is use an external harddrive enclosure that is hot
swappable so you could use as many hard drives as you would like (if
you have some on hand) or you could use a 500 gb usb2 external, or if
money is not a problem you could get a 5 terabyte usb box.

good luck

thanks gang. I think, in that case, I'll get:

500gb for data
80 - 160gb for OSs & progs (not too big so I can maybe afford a raid
in the future)
a caddy for my 80gb IDE for backups

Sounds pretty good to me! Now it's just deciding what. I keep hearing
mixed reviews about Western Digital, but that seems the obvious choice
at the moment. If anyone has any recommendations, let a brother know!

Thanks!
