I used a disk image/recovery program to recover data from a failing
hard drive over a year ago, and I am finally able to restore the data
to a new drive. My problem is I dont remember the name of the
recovery program used.

The recovered file format is Drive_H.dat.

Does anyone know what recovery program uses that file format to write
the recovery file ? It was most likley a freeware utility.

Any hely would be greatly appreciated.

You could try opening the file with a text editor (I suspect that W2000
Notepad won't be happy with a file that size; something like EditPad Lite
will do it) and see if the recovery program has left some useful text at the
start of the file. Otherwise, .dat is normally used simply for a generic
data file.

Oh, hang on, you can use the "more" command from a command prompt to do the
same thing (although some chars will appear... strange).
