Hello,

I have a laptop with a license for Vista Premium Home Edition. My hard
drive failed before I burned the recovery discs. Toshiba will not send
recovery discs.

Do I need to buy a Vista license, or can I get an install and use my
existing license?

Thanks,

Colin Barnhorst is the resident EXPERT on this kind of issue.

He should be along soon.

Since one of the first things that should be done when you get a computer
with a recovery partition like the Toshiba's is to burn the recovery DVD/CD
the machine should still be relatively new. Therefore it should be under
warranty. Therefore Toshiba should fix the problem (replace the hard drive
with a like unit with full OS installed,) granted you may have to send the
laptop to them. Explore warranty details.

Now if the machine is out of warranty....

Normally they will sell you System disks at a nominal cost.
What is their reason for refusing?
If it is a failed Hard Drive, and under Warranty, they HAVE to fix it!

Hi,

Contact Toshiba again at 800-457-7777 as you need a recovery disk set
specific to your machine. Buying a retail disk will not help you because you
will need proprietary driver support for the system that will likely not be
in the retail version. Toshiba issues these disks for a fee, they're not
free. The expense involved may help to remind you to create your own disks
next time.
