HARD DRIVE ERASED!?

About 2 weeks ago I bought a second hard drive. It is a seagate 160gb
hard drive. I set it up after a few problems of drives not being
read, I got it all running right. Just last night I tried to access 1
folder in the second hard drive and it said it was corrupt or
unreadable. However, another folder in that drive worked just fine.

So E:\Folder was corrupt, but E:\Folder2 was fine.

I restarted my computer and everything was fine. HOWEVER, i let some
stuff download/upload on my computer when I went to bed. I woke up to
see that Folder1 (folder which I was dling/uling to) was saying it was
corrupt again. I close out everythign and restart my computer..

Now my second hard drive which was once named "Second Hard Drive" is
now named local disk, and when I clicked it, it said "disk not
formated yet, woul dyou like to format it? yes/no? WHAT THE HELL
HAPPENED? Are all my files gone? I had about 70gigs of my most
important files on that hard drive! I am going to break stuff if I
can't recover those files.

PLEASE HELP ME WITH A SOLUTION OR ADVICE!

Thanks

Bought it new?

Describe "problems" in detail.

Describe "not being read" in detail.
I got it all running right.

Due to what actions?

How is the drive cabled? How is the drive jumpered? What is on the same
cable; jumpered how on which connector?
Just last night I tried to access 1
folder in the second hard drive and it said it was corrupt or

How much use has there evre been of the new HD?
However, another folder in that drive worked just fine.

The less you do with it now then the more likely you can recover once the
proper course is determined.

Run manufacturer's diagnostics to verify the drive is OK. Replace
it if it fails.
Reformat and repartition the disk.
Restore your data from your backup.

NO!

That may make things worse.

The first issue is recovery. See the OP's opening post. After the recovery
has been evaluated and/or completed THEN HD mfg's diagnostics come into
play.

Yes I know all that. You're missing my point.

Where the heck did 70GB of "most important files" appear from in
the space of a fortnight? I'm guessing it came from some other
media, which can now act as the backup the OP didn't take
explicitly.

You did make a backup of all your important files, right?

If you have more than 1 stick of memory installed and they are from differnt
manufacturers, you can end up with corrupt files.
If you do have more than 1 stick, shutdown the computer, remove all but 1
and try it that way for a while.

Obviously NOT. Read the opening post in this thread.

He said he got a second HD and nothing about any RAM. RAM is highly likely
NOT to be involved from his description. The number one rule of debugging
is NOT to start running around like headless chicken.

The OP made it clear that he had no backup so rubbing his nose in that
constitutes a troll.

Where in the post did he make it clear he had no backup? I followed the
previous thread where he was trying to get help to get the drive
installed in the first place. He had all kinds of problems. So the
natural thing to do was to make a backup of files once the drive was
installed and data put on it. It was a legitimate question. And who
made you the decider of what someone else should post. Keep to the
thread and mind your own business.
