Hi,

My Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 45 Ultra ATA 100 Hard Drive (20.4 GB)
recently failed. It isn't recognized by BIOS - it won't even spin when
the computer is powered up. There are obviously electrical problems
with it. It failed once, then I tried to power on my computer, and
smoke came out (either from the hard drive or the power supply - not
sure). I was wondering how could I fix this cheaply? Could I replace
the controller board? If so, what should I replace it with?

If you can help me out, please send me detailed instructions. If it
works out, I'll be more than happy to send a small monetary "donation"
to you.

Email me at (e-mail address removed) if you need to.

Thank You.

Unless you are experienced at computer repairs, your best bet is to take it
to the computer shop before it burns your house down.

Yes, very likely that will work.

One off an identical drive. As close as you can find,
same revision level etc will maximise the chances.

Fraid I cant with that particular drive.
