When I uninstall programs, or clear my internet cache, I
cant recover disk space.
I have heard this problem before, but never found out tje
solution. Whats the deal? Has something to do with System
restore??????????

Hi Dave,

Try defragging.

As to System Restore, it wouldn't prevent recovery of unused disk space. You
can limit the space it reserves from the settings section on the SR tab of
system properties.

SR is often invoked to make a new restore point by both Install *and*
uninstall. So you can find that the space in use by it goes up at an
uninstall - if it has not overfilled its quota.

Check by running it, set out on he 'Restore to previous condition' and
highlight days on the calendar. If one says 'Uninstall X' then this is
what happened.

On a large disk, the 12% allowed to SR is probably excessive - try
cutting it down at System - System Restore, highlight the drive and
adjust: 200 MB is the minimum, 500 probably a sensible level to provide
a dozen or so restore points.
