I just recently bought a new 40 gig hard drive and
installed it, partitioned it, formatted etc. It works fine
but for some odd reason when I installed a game and then
uninstalled it and installed it again, it said that the
space used by the original files were still gone.
Basically, I should have 35 gigs, but instead ive only got
30. Its done it a couple other times with some other
things as well. I made sure to delete any files left
behind when the games were removed and ran disk cleanup.
The only thing on the hard drive is the one game, and yet
Im missing lots of space. I noticed my old hard drive did
this sometimes too when I would clean it up and delete a
lot of files, but that never lasted too long and it would
eventually recognize that there was nothing there. This
one just isnt doing that. Is there something wrong with it
or am I just completely missing something I need to do?

You could try a cleanup of System Restore. MyComputer>rt click Drive
Icon>Select Prop>Disk Cleanup>
More Options>System Restore-Cleanup.

Didn't work. In fact I think it says I lost another .6
gigs after that. Just to make sure too I made hidden files
visible, highlighted all of the 5 files on the hard drive
to see how big they were, and it tells me all of those are
only using 8 gigs now, and yet the hard drive properties
say I'm using 12 gigs. cleanup didn't help, restarting
didnt help, defragmenting didnt help, where be my space?
