A short while ago, some capacitors on my ECS K7S5A Pro burst. The system
wouldn't post from then on, so I endeavoured to find out how much of it had
been trashed.
I've swapped around the PSU, motherboard, CPU, RAM and graphics card with
similar known-working parts, ending-up with the only part from the 'blown'
system being the HDD. It still doesn't post. I get power to all places,
but never any beeps to indicate specific problems. There was one noticeable
thing though, the usual HDD spin-up didn't sound as high-pitched as usual.
If you check out the following picture, you'll see the small orange plate in
the centre where the PCB connects to the centre of the platters:
http://www.exhardware.com/reviews/wd800jb/wd6.jpg . On my WD800JB, there
appears to be some black burn-out across the centre of the orange plate. Is
the HDD definitely trashed? I didn't want to continue attempting to post
the system if this is the case.
