My main HD drive 0, has a bad block which causes a crash once in a while.
Can anyone suggest a decent program to isolate or repair a bad block?
Thankyou

Here's the program. Buy new hard drive. Replace defective hard drive.

Seriously, once Windows sees a bad sector on a modern hard drive the hard
drive is not to be trusted. Hard drives have built in spare sectors that are
automatically mapped in as bad sectors are found. If Windows is seeing a bad
sector then all of the spare sectors are used up. If you are using NTFS then
it also automatically maps out bad sectors as it finds them. If it keeps
reporting bad sectors then there are more occurring on an ongoing basis or
the bad sector is in a critical system area that can't be mapped out. Back
up your data and replace the drive.

I just experienced the 'bad block' issue. One report in the manager in
mid February 06 soon grew to several reports and then a continuous list
by 2nd week of March 06. Several chkdsk routines did not isolate or
repair. One chkdsk routine took all day. Files were reported damaged or
lost each time. A new drive went in March 17. It wasn't my main drive
but the issue began to effect software files on the main drive. Amazing
how fast the computer shuts down now.
I would recommend gathering your files and cds preparing for a new drive
and reinstall ...and follow the advice by Tulkas.
