Try installing the xp cd,exit the info page, restart computer, boot to cd-when the text appears,
in the new window select, install xp,then select, new copy.

The instructions may be different for different HDD's. I would
suggest that you read the materiel that came with your new HDD.

Hi, Ed.

If by "a windows xp system cd" you mean a Retail version of the WinXP
CD-ROM, then it's quite straightforward. Just set your computer to boot
from CD, insert the disk, and reboot. It will boot from the WinXP CD,
detect the hardware in your computer, and offer to repartition and reformat
your HD. Let it do that (choose NTFS as the format unless you expect to
also install Win9x/ME in this computer), then continue to install WinXP.
It'll take a while, but all you have to do is follow the prompts.

But if your "windows xp system cd" is an OEM version, then its contents
depend on what your Original Equipment Manufacturer chose to include on it.
That disk may or may not allow you to format your drive and install WinXP
from scratch. To give you more information, we'll need more information
from you, like, who made your computer. Dell and HP don't work alike, and
neither does your local computer dealer/assembler. Did you get any manuals
or other documentation?
