hard disk size

After digging around, I've discovered the following:

My hard drive is advertised as 200GB which is actually
200,000,000,000 bytes (there's the catch!). If we do the
math, there are 1024 bytes in a Kb, so to convert
200,000,000,000 into the real Gb value, we divide by 1024
3 times (200,000,000,000 / 1024 / 1024 / 1024) to get
186.26Gb. Which is what I am seeing in Windows. So the
advertising of 200Gb when it is actually 186.26Gb seems
to have thrown me off!

This is common practice and IMO is false advertising, but who am I to
question the industry :)

If RAM was sold this way, people would notice. If milk or gasoline were
sold this way, the masses would revolt.
