Hard Disk Identity question

Hello,

I have some hard disks here that I think have been stolen, formatted
and then put to use on a another computer.

My questions are:

How would I find the real owner (probably the person that used the
computer before it was formatted)?

Ideally this will mean I get a first name and a surname, and possibly even
a street address, an email address would probably be just as useful.

I have seen and used data recovery programs, but recovering files is one
thing, identifying the owner from that is another :-)

I'll be darned if I will help someone put a name to a recovered credit card
number.

If you are legit, just turn them over to the police, along with your
suspicions. Let them take it from there!

The police have forensic software that could help you in your quest. Maybe
you'll even get a reward from Crime Stoppers.
 
Why do you think they are stolen people sell used stuff
all the time if they did not do a good job of erasing
their loss. Most people and companies including my self
drill holes in the hard drive if they are going to get rid
of them..making it useless

Well as long as you're still the same old git I've grown to know and, er,
tolerate (I won't go so far as to say 'love' <eg>) then that's fine. I don't
want you to be mellowing on me! ;o)
