Hard Disk freezes regularly

I have XP Professional installed on an older Motherboard
(P2 550Mhz with 640MB of RAM). The Hard disk (tried 2 so
far) always freezes up after about 30 to 40 mins of
working normally. At that point I have to reset the
machine. The HDDs in question are an older 30GB Maxtor
and an IBM Deskstar 15GB

Just the hard disk, or the entire machine? How are you
finding that it is the hard disk?

If you're 100% sure it's the disk freezing, other
possible problems include overheating, loose connections,
and bad or failing IDE controllers.

Sounds more like a problem with a video card. Have you the
latest updates to the card? If not, get 'em, uninstall the
old drivers and install the new ones and see if things get
better, OK?

Is it entirely necessary to uninstall the old driver? I mean xp does
have the option to "update driver," which might suggest that its not
necessary. I ask because I am downloading a new vid driver now.
