Hard disk failure

Hi

I have a problem with XP Embedded that crashes my hard drives.

Blue screen appears and then I can't boot again.
If I mount the harddrive in a USB to IDE adapter it's not recognized by
Windows.

We have about 300 PC's running world wide on XPE and 5 to 10% have had this
kind of failure.

Have I missed a component that can help protect the hard drive?
I would prefeer not to use EWF

I don't have any solutions for you, but I do feel your pain :-). We have
also had problems in the field with XPE PCs that somehow manage to trash the
hard disk, sometimes making them unbootable. Some of it stems from running
systems "headless," resulting in not being able to do a soft shutdown.

It's still not clear to us if this is a hardware or software issue, or if it
is more preventable from software. We are switching over to a PC with a
flash drive instead of rotating media, and will use RAM-based EWF to also
help reduce its vulnerability.

If it is no EWF you need then what kind of protection for HDD you're looking for?

What BSOD you're seeing?

Also, obviously, reduce number of writes to the hard disk from all the components (system, applications, etc.) in your image.
