I have a 2 year old Acer Desktop. My hard disk crashed. I tried using Acer
recovery CD but it did not recover windows. So, I had to reformat the disk.
But now the Acer Windows CD is not able to install Windows XP.

I have valid Windows XP OEM licens key on teh box. But Microsoft would not
issue me a CD against that product key? Why?

Acer also is not issuing me a Windows CD and asking me to contact Microsoft
for the CD?

How do I get a Windows XP install CD to recover my computer?

Why was the recovery CD not able to recover Windows?

MS owes no support to owners of OEM systems.

Haven't they already supplied you with a recovery CD?

If you can find XP for sale anywhere, you buy it from the store.
Be aware that you will also need a CD which has the special chipset drivers
for your computer. The only source for this would be Acer.

You have had two hard drive failures
1 = failure in everyday operation
2 = failure of recovery procedure for the OS.

Considering how cheap hard drives have become,
it is folly to proceed unless both:
A: The hard drive manufacturer's diagnostics report
this HD is now in perfect running order.
B: You believe the manufacturer.
After two HD failures, most users would simply replace the HD.
(If you have OEM instal CDs, you ought then to be able to
reinstal the OS trouble-free.)

That is an OEM license, Microsoft is under no obligation to provide you
support, that is Acer's job.

They should provide you with recovery media for a fee, if your out of
warranty don't expect anything for free.

Borrow or otherwise get your hands on a Microsoft OEM CD of the same version
(Home or Pro) that the product key is for, your key will work with this.

Well if your hd crashed its probably terminal, and as such you need a new
hd.
Win wont install on a failed HD

Obviously Microsoft will not issue a new key against an OEM version of the Operating System .
OEM is proprietary to the manufacturer of the computer builder in this case Acer

Did Acer in fact tell you that they could not
sell you a restore/recovery CD?
