Reading Mucks' new SSD hard drive thread I got to wondering just what speeds my two year old SSD is capable of as I didn't have a clue.

Speccy told me it was a Corsair 120Gb (a true 112Gb) Force three and Corsair's website informed me that it had speeds of Read: 550Mb/Sec and Write: 510Mb/Sec.

So I started checking speeds of current SSD's and they're all fairly close to those speeds, in fact most are a fraction less. I rather doubted this information as my SSD is two years old and I assumed the speeds Corsair were quoting must be for an updated version.

So I ran the ATTO benchmark test and to my surprise it does seem those are the actual speeds. Which cheered me up a bit:

ATTO V2.41 benchmark:

You can download V2.46 of the ATTO benchmark from Here

There may be a newer version at ATTO's website but you have to register with them to get it. The program doesn't install, it runs 'live'.

Maybe you'd like to post your benchie here? :)

Heres mine.

I have no idea why my write speeds are so slow however?

right then ...

I forgot to enable AHCI first in the BIOS before installing Windows.

I found a more informative SSD benching software, AS SSD that told me I had a bad PCI-IDE.

Fortunately, it was very easy to fix ... be aware, AMD chipset boards may prove problematic ... simply change one setting in the registry, reboot to the BIOS, change from IDE to AHCI, boot and re-boot when asked.

I must admit, I was surprised it was that easy. Oh and MS has a Fix-It as well.

Now I'm really impressed on the speed, it's even faster.
