hard disk access

Due to a system crash, probably caused by a problem with my SATA hard disk, I
had to reinstall Windows XP Home.
Since this isn't the first crash, and because I suspect there is a problem
with my disk, I added another disk - this time IDE - and installed Windows on
the new disk.
Everything works fine so far, and I'm even able to see the contents of the
SATA disk which is terrific since I have plenty of data still on it.

Just one small problem: some of the files on my SATA disk were located in my
administrators account documents and I had set this folder as invisible to
other users. The problem is that I can't access these files any more, now
that reinstalled Windows. I still get the access denied error. Is there any
way to circumvent this? I obviously still know the former admin account name
and password.

thanks for any suggestions,
Tom

Hi

Taking ownership should fix this:

As long as EFS is not involved:

How to disable simplified sharing & set permissions
on a shared folder in Windows XP

thanks folks. I figured with XP Home there was no such thing as security
settings, but one of these documents thaught me that I had to boot in safe
mode. My system is converting ownership of all my files as I write this.
