New machine, new install, and the hard disk access light is on alsmost solid
100% of the time, even if I go away for a while.
This is unacceptable and makes no sense.
The disk will be fried in a year.

Whay does it do this and my laptop does not, even though the access is
periodic and often, it's not 100% hammering the disk.

It is doing its normal indexing on a new install.
It will settle down in a few days, depending on your usuage.

Hi Mick

This well may be the case, since the procs running continuously are
SearchIndex and SearchFilter and SearchProtocol.

Thank you very much for a short logical answer, kudos to you!

Makes me feel a lot better, since I had major fears about building a new
system and installing Vista Premium.
In the past, I had countless problems with XP and new hardware (usually
cutting edge, so some expected).
This time I researched motherboards a lot.
Asus Maximum II, sweet Intel boad.
Even though I have built at least a thousand systems in the course of my
life, I now design the chips inside and leave the system and software to you
other experts, except this time :)

I do have to say that so far, everything went together very nicely
andhardware and OS are working great out of the box.

Any thoughs on how secure Windows email is, compared to Outlook Express 6
and Outlook 7?

Thanks again,
C

OK, now it's thrashing the disk non stop on other procs, wmiprvse windows
media player, etc.
How can I stop all of this?
Thnx
