hi, i'm getting a warning in systemerror log says:
driver detected that device\Device\harddisk0\DRO has
predicted it will fail. Back up your data and replace
hard disk drive.Failure may be imminent.
is there a way to repair this without replacing my
hard drive? thanks, milt

If this is what I think it is, the answer is no. Many hard drives today
have self-diagnostics that are designed to give such warnings.

To be sure, if you don't have your hard drive's tools disk, go to the hard
drive manufacturer's web site and download their tools, follow their
instructions for placing it on a floppy and whatever else they tell you to
do to make it bootable, sometime you only need to unzip it to the floppy
drive, then boot with the disk run their own diagnostic.

However, before you do anything else, get yourself backed up. You can
replace a hard drive for around $100 but you cannot replace your data. Do
not take chances with this. Once the drive is innaccessible, all is lost
unless you take it to people who specialize in retrieving data from such
drives and that's very expensive.
