Due to multiple failures of my Toshiba Laptop (fired
ethernet card & non-functional eraser mouse) my MIS
administrator sent me a New Toshiba chasis (without the
hard-drive) and told me to remove my hard drive from the
problematic laptop and install into the new chasis. I know
my RAM memory is located on the Mother board. My questions
is this: Prior to me shipping the problematic Toshiba back
to my company, is there anything that is on my RAM that I
need to install into the new chasis, or anything I need to
erase from the RAM prior to shipping the problematic
Toshiba chasis back to my company?

thank for any insight you can share w/ me.

When the computer is turned off everything in RAM is erased. The only
information that will be retained on a computer that you need be concerned
about with the power off is that which is stored on the Hard Disk Drive.

If the new Toshiba chassis is a newer model from the old one (with different
graphics card, processor, bios, etc.) you may not be able to simply swap the
hard drive from one to the other. You may need to do an in-place upgrade
using the Windows XP CD. Of course it appears that your company may not
have supplied you with one with your old computer. Also, if your company
erased the original Toshiba installation of XP and installed a
multi-licensed version of XP you will not be able to use the license key
from the new computer but will need the key for the multi-user version of
XP. Contact your IT person at the company if you have any problems.

RAM is cleared every time you re-boot, it has no memory
without power ON.

Your problem MAY be that your old hard drive may not boot in
the new chassis because of the changes. Toshiba may have
activated XP and it will work on any Toshiba laptop, better
ask. If you have to, you may need to reinstall XP and for
that you'll need the real XP CD. If all you have is restore
disks you will lose all your files.

You need to backup ALL your data files to a CD-R or some
other computer in case you encounter a problem.
