Microsoft has decided to stop supporting Windows Defender at the end of this
year
for Windows 2000 systems. They have also discontinued my license, so that I
cannot use the existing version I have on my computer. Is there any work around

for this?

Seems like the computer world is trying to push people out of Windows 2000, like

Symantec not offering their Antivirus program anymore for that system, and now
Microsoft dropping support for certain products. I will go to an Apple system
before they force me into Windows XP which I consider a lousy operating system
with no advantages over Windows 2000.

While I am sure that while you will enjoy learning Apple and
Mac OS X, but have you ever looked for alternatives? Microsoft
not supporting Windows 2000 is not the end of the world. There
are many systems in the corporate world, perhaps one-third to
one-half that are not running Windows XP simply for the fact
that these units have yet to be replaced. After all, who buys
computers without the [current] OS already installed?

As for alternatives, adequate protection can be obtained using,
for example, AVG for anti-virus and ZoneAlarm for a firewall.
Add Adaware for anti-spyware. And excluding Microsoft, there
will always be adequate support for Windows 2000 and remember
that there are still users of Windows 3.X even today.
