hi, i need some advise regards my system hanging sometimes + refusing to
boot/reboot when a 'search' is run
it's happened twice now... once when i ran a search for an mp3 file on a
storage disk while i using media player, the second time (just now) when i
was looking at the list of processes running in taskmanager and i ran a
search for a process i didn't recognise to see if it was a microsoft program
or not...
both times the machine locked during the search and i was forced to go for a
reset... the result being a delay when it came to listing the sata drives
which reported only my c drive but not the d storage drive... it then went
onto the next screen verifying the pool data etc, but hung right there...
another reset later did exactly the same thing...
reset again and then went for safe mode, which loaded after an eternity,
checked the drives in my computer, but sata drive d was missing from the
list
scheduled a file check on c drive and rebooted which this time listed the d
drive and booted into windows, the file checker kicked in reporting no
errors... put it all down to some sort of glitch and basically forgot about
it, all was well for 3/4 weeks until today...
this time it crashed again during the search but while only the taskmanager
was running... with same set of problems again, no d drive at the raid
screen etc, but hanging on the logo screen
tried resetting into 'last known config' etc but again got hung up on the
logo screen... reset again into safe mode, drive d was again missing in my
computer, rebooted several times but kept hanging at the logo, did
everything i did before but always hung at the logo screen... duh!
luckily a flash of intuition directed me to shut down and unplug the spare
sata drive on d... and it booted into windows no problem! (whew shut down
again and reconnected the d drive, started up no problem, recognising the
extra drive and booting straight into windows, tada drive d was back in my
computer and all is again well with my system, no errors reported in file
checker for both c and d, everything is fine...
so what's it all about then, plus is there anything i can do to stop it
crashing like that again when using search while other programs are running?
mainboard is a NF7 S2
athlon 2500 barton
1 gig of ram
2 sata drives + 1 ide storage drive
has been running like a charm for about 3 years
it's my baby
many TIA from slider
